EGRESS WINDOWS

Finally, we specialize in the installation of egress windows, which are required in many jurisdictions for basements used as living spaces. These windows provide a safe and easy means of escape in the event of an emergency and also let in natural light and ventilation. Our team can help you determine the best location and size for your egress window, and we'll ensure that it meets all local safety codes and regulations.

What is an Egress Window?

An egress window is a large window that can be fully opened to allow a person to exit (escape) in case of an emergency, such as a fire. In Ontario, any basement bedroom or living area must have at least one egress window to be considered legal and safe. It's not just a window; it's a lifesaver.

Code Compliance Experts

Navigating the Ontario Building Code can be complex. We ensure your installation meets all specific requirements:

  • Openable Area: Must provide an unobstructed opening of at least 3.8 sq. ft. (0.35 m²).
  • Dimension Limits: No dimension (width or height) can be less than 15 inches (380 mm).
  • Window Wells: If required, the well must provide enough space (approx 30 inches clearance) to crawl out easily.

Complete Installation Package

We provide a turnkey service. From excavating the exterior and cutting the concrete foundation to installing the new window, window well, and drainage system to the weeping tile, we handle it all. We finish the interior with clean trim work, leaving your basement looking professional and complete.
